Dad's passing

Hello All,

I wanted to share that my dad passed away yesterday at 10:15 am.

He went peacefully. My brother, his family, my mom and myself were present to see my Father take his last breath.

All of us are doing well. We have much support from family and friends.

I want to thank you for your prayers and thoughts over the past three years. I also thank you for your invitations to reunions to catch up on life and stuff.

In some ways, it is a relief to move on to a new season of life. I am trusting God he will provide the strength to move forward just as he has before.

Thanks again for your prayers and support.

Andrew

word up!

some people i know have been saying some profound things lately. maybe they're profound to me because i've been thinking along the same lines and because i agree wholeheartedly with what they're saying. in other words, i am bias. still, i just had to give a "WORD UP!" shout out to these individuals. please click on the links to see what they have to say.

this all started with a very honest post from Mary DeMuth. this is the best blog post i've seen in awhile. in my opinion, what Chris Sowers has to say ties in well. a day or two later, Mary wanted to balance out her angst with some recognition. this last post made me want to acknowledge these people: Aaron Stewart, Mike Brantley Crew and Tim McDonald Clan because in Mary's words, "I know these are pastors and ministers who selflessly serve Jesus and His body. They suffer hardship and continue on. They exemplify service, authentic love, sacrifice, and joy. They may not have an abundance of material possessions, but my inkling is that their treasure is piled in heaven--a great reward reserved for the future."

Aaron Stewart - White, Western and Wealthy.

Mike Brantley - Why do we run back to Egypt and whine so much?, Did you also know..., Counter Cultural Mandate

Tim McDonald and Family

and just go ahead and subscribe to Tina Lips blog because it's just that great!

My Christmas in DK

Hi Guys!

Well.. Sounds like wuite a christmas for you Dori.. Thats a lot of people and a lot of food that has to be made and consumed :-)

I'll tell you a little about my x-mas... I was back in my hometown of Skive with my parents, my youngest older brother and my next oldest brother and his wife (hope it makes sense)

I arrived at the 21 st, unfortunately missing the party of the year at my school, where our class would have our yearly christmaslunch ( A danish christmaslunch is lunch with, all kinds of Hering, Pork roast, fish filets and alot of danish things such as - leverposteg, ris ala mande, frikadeller, sylte and more - all the good stuff) A real shame i missed it, but there will be one next year!

In Denmark we celebrate christams the 24th in the evenening. We started by chilling and roasting a duck then going to church at 16.00. Afterwards we would go home, light up the fireplace and have a drink! Then dinner is served. Yummy duck cooked in a local style from Bornholm (a danish island south of Sweden) Really good stuff with potatoes, sugarglazed potatoes, sauce and red cabbage! nice!

After dinner we eat Ris-alamande - a rice pudding.
Then we walk around the christmas tree ( which has real live candles) singing 10 christmas songs before we get packages!

This year I got some sweet stuff! different kinds of bowls, a camera, boxers, pillowcases, scarf and more!

Good stufF!

I'll post some pics one of the next days, to show you how to celebrate christmas - Danish style!

cheers

Carl

Christmas this year... full of people, noise and fun. All 27 of us (1 grandma, 2 parents, 4 siblings, 4 inlaws, and 15 neices and nephews) are under one roof. I'll post a picture when I have one. In all of the chaos, I actually have my own room and it's the best in the house... how did I manage that? I'm in my grandmother's closet. :) It's fairly roomy, has a door, it's dark and it's quiet! :) Yay for walk-in closets!!!
I finished my first semester in seminary. I will most likely be there another 2 1/2 years but that's fine with me. Life goes on...
:) I hear a movie on out in the living room. I guess I'll go be social again.
Merry Christmas everyone! I love y'all!!! :)
Love,
Dori
P.s. Write a post on how your Christmas has been; I'll love to hear about it!!

Image of the Year 2006

i saw this picture on the front cover of the New York Times in August of this year and it has been ingrained in my mind since then. never have i seen such joy, relief, sorrow and exhaustion mingled so intensely on camera film. these soldiers made it over the border just in time for their lives to be spared. Up the Irons :-)

Hi guys!

Just wanted to let you guys know that im doing great and say hi!
In theory this time should be spent on my history essay about the early colonization from a british point of view! Mayflower and all.. I actually dont know that much about it, but it will all work out I hope!

Up the Irons! - I went to see Iron Maiden play in Copenhagen a week ago or so! Its was okay - The sound was horrible, but they played awesome! A lot of the new stuff ( which i unlike alot of other people like) and some old stuff as well! It was deffinately a night to remember...

Otherwise i dont have that much to say... Unfortunately it looks like its going to be hard to make a reunion.. Everybody are so busy - incl. myself..

The Boy and the Dog are Sleeping

Les Miserables was the last book i read and i haven't yet been able to pick up another. it's one of those books that you have to sit with for awhile. it feels like adultery to move on. it impacts you so deeply, becoming a part of who you want to be. Victor Hugo unites words like no one else. words become poetry instead of sentences, paragraphs become longings instead of chapters. and before you know it how you view life and love is totally flipped upside down and inside out. you can no longer be who you were before you read the book.

i couldn't bring myself to read another until today. my friend Jeremy bought me a copy of a book he hasn't been able to shake to this day, The Boy and the Dog are Sleeping.

"Sometimes I think I am insane.
Why would anyone sane adopt a child with AIDS?
It terrifies me to write this book. I am afraid. I am afraid of dragons.
I am afraid of losing my mind. I want something no one is allowed to have.
I want the mad ones. The children mad enough to struggle and survive. I want the children who have seen war. The children mad enough to question everything. The children who have had everything taken away from them. The children who are broken and mad enough to attempt to repair themselves. The children mad enough to spit and fight. Mad enough to laugh outrageously. Mad enough to make music of their own. Mad enough to see themselves as individuals. I want children who will dance in the rain. I want the mad, crazy ones. I want the ones insane enough to love hard, and brave enough to be vulnerable.
I do not know where this book begins.
I am haunted by deep, electric flashes of music, memories, dragons, and madness."

in transition

to answer your question more fully Carl, my life is definitely in transition again right now. i am working at portland international airport and i really like my job. it's definitely not what i want to do for the rest of my life, but for now, it's perfect. my co-workers are really good, fun people.

an old friend of mine just started taking me through a process called "focused living." all i can see of my life right now is pieces and this process will hopefully help me see the whole puzzle and how everything connects. hopefully, it will draw things out from my past and present that will help me pursue a meaningful path in the future. so please be praying for me you guys as i walk through this over the next month.

these are three opportunities that my heart is drawn to and i am considering:
- new orleans, louisiana
- prague, czech republic
- glasgow, scotland

i love you all and i miss you!

this was the greenhouse

from top to bottom: Sean & Betsy (married) - Tim & Jeannie (just married 28 october) - Charlie - Matt & Laura (married) - Gladdy & Scotty (on their way to being married)

the greenhouse started out as Sean & Betsy - Jeannie - and myself. then Charlie came along. followed by Matt & Laura. and finally Scotty.

due to various reasons the greenhouse is no more.

it was a chapter full of tears, laughter, pain, joy, darkness, beauty, light.

i love these people.

please click on their pictures to learn more about them.

What did you expect? To forget about the Porn-Lamp?

Hey Treasure & co. :-)

A lot of spooky stuff is happening these days! That is so much fun you thought of the Porn Lamp aswell!!! Og.. That lamp is still only a few stamps away, however thy arent willing to give it to me :-( Crap!

Another spooky happening was that i Yesterday wrote a guest ( Melanie - Horticulture-girl) and the same day she had been thinking of me! What coincidences... im speechless!

well Back to the Porn Lamp... i like saying/writing that... its just sooo.........naughty :D

It resides at the Willemstraat, where all of the staff is living now (both city and Jordan). It has been painted and stuff and now it looks really cool. And all of the staff are happy to live together with both of the hostels! So thats really cool!

Harald has remade the lower appartment at the Schinkelstraat and is living there by himself. Our appartments are currently on the way to be involved in some kind of "getting the red light ladies of the street" kind of thing... a good thing i think!

As for Guido! I asked around, with the oldest staff there, seemed to know him! They said that there had been made some regulations towards having homeless people at the hostel ( which i believe was directed pretty uch at Guido only) unfortunately. I didnt see him on the streets either :( Lets hope he is allright!

Well back in Copenhagen everything is nice.. I have a little holiday from school, and im enjoying it to the fullest! Im involved in IFES and its international Bible Study Group, which is really cool! I am really looking forward to an Iron Maiden concert here in COpenhagen!!! Its going to be awesome!!!

But actually im just chilling in my Orange Fuzzy Clogs ( house shoes) at the moment.. enjoying life!
What are you doing Treasure.. Its been a long time since I have heard from you.. The last thing i remember was something about you moving into a house with other christian people!
How is that working out?

Well... again.. this mail has gotten long, so i'll better stop!

write back

cheers
Carl
